What is the difference between balayage and ombré and what is colour melting? The aim of this article is to explain the various hair colour techniques we use at bhp hairdressing.
Ombré or balayage – which hair colour is right for me?
Balayage is a French word which means to “paint” or “sweep”. By using this freehand technique, we can add your hair colour exactly where you want it for a natural looking sun-kissed result.
The dye will be applied to the hair freehand, using vertical strokes, just as if you were painting colour onto the hair. The look can be as subtle or as dramatic as you wish – and we can use a variety of colours from brunettes, reds and blondes to fashion colours.
Ombré hair colours
The word ombré is derived from the French term for ‘shadow’. This gives you a more defined colour which often looks a little ‘two tone.’ We can create ombré using a multitude of colours.
The colour melting trend
Colour melting blends multiple shades of hair colour with your base hair colour. For example, if you are naturally a brunette, we might add several shades of brunette which melts into a beautiful golden colour. Colour melting also works if you have a fashion colour as your base – perhaps a pretty pink, lilac or rose gold colour. By adding multiple highlights in similar tones we can create a gorgeous blend.
